Free Admission Day
Saturday, February 27
10am-4pm
Free and open to the public
Everyone is welcome and encouraged to invite their friends, family, and fellow community members to visit the Garden on this Free Admission Day. Garden Guides will be stationed throughout the Garden to help answer questions and speak about the Garden’s history, culture, and traditions.
On display in the Pavilion will be the Garden's Hina Matsuri (Doll Festival) collection.
Poet Margaret Chula and artist Cathy Erickson will also be present for a special booksigning of their recently published book What Remains: Japanese Americans in Internment Camps. The book features quilts through which Cathy Erickson envisions the Japanese American experience during the internment, complemented by long-time Garden member Margaret Chula's poetry eliciting the voices of men, women, and children who were interned.
Additionally, we are pleased to welcome members of the Oregon Nikkei Endowment (ONE) who have graciously provided a demonstration of origami paper folding of Hina Dolls by Michiko Kornhauser and ONE volunteers.
