Portland Japanese Garden Holds February Free Admission Day

Portland, Ore. – The Portland Japanese Garden will be holding a Free Admission Day on Saturday, February 27, from 10am-4pm. Everyone is welcome and encouraged to invite their friends, family, and fellow community members to visit the Garden on this Free Day.

“This is our fifth year hosting Free Admission Days,” Steve Bloom, the Garden’s Executive Director. “The response from the community is greater each year, and we love sharing the Garden with everyone on these special days.”

During Free Admission Day, visitors will be invited to view the Garden’s Hina Matsuri (Doll Festival) collection in the Pavilion. In addition, poet Margaret Chula and artist Cathy Erickson will be present for a special book signing of their recently published book What Remains: Japanese Americans in Internment Camps. The book features quilts through which Cathy Erickson envisions the Japanese American experience during the internment, complemented by long-time Garden member Margaret Chula’s poetry eliciting the voices of men, women, and children who were interned. Both events are free as well.

The Portland Japanese Garden has been proclaimed one of the most beautiful Japanese gardens in the world. The Garden sits above Washington Park at 611 SW Kingston Drive in SW Portland, Oregon. The Garden is open daily except on Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Year’s. Hours are 10am-4pm October 1–March 31, and 10am-7pm April 1–September 30.
