Portland Japanese Garden to Co-Host American Public Garden Association Conference; Convening Representatives from Over 600 Different Gardens Around the World

Portland Japanese Garden is honored to be among the host gardens for this year’s annual conference of the American Public Garden Association (APGA), titled “CommUNITY of Gardens.” From June 19th through June 24th, professionals representing 600 organizations from all 50 states and 20 nations will convene at Hilton Downtown Portland to highlight how public gardens “ignite connection, protection, and change.”

As the Pacific Northwest moves from spring into summer, its landscape becomes decorated with the joyous colors of irises, wisteria, azaleas, and rhododendrons. These flowers have become so deeply woven into the gardens, parks, and yards of Oregon that one may not realize many are actually Japanese in origin. Gifts from Japan: A Horticultural Tale Told through Botanical Art, a new art exhibition at Portland Japanese Garden explores how these beloved plants voyaged across an ocean to establish new roots in the United States.

Portland Japanese Garden Celebrates Purchase of Salvation Army Property; U.S. Rep. Suzanne Bonamici & Oregon Sen. Elizabeth Steiner Hayward to be in Attendance for Hand-Off Event

On Thursday April 21, Portland Japanese Garden will celebrate the acquisition of a property that will house its new sibling organization, the Japan Institute. Speakers at this event will include U.S. Rep. Suzanne Bonamici, Oregon Sen. Elizabeth Steiner Hayward, Consul General of Japan in Portland Masaki Shiga, Salvation Army Major Bob Lloyd, and Portland Japanese Garden CEO Steve Bloom.

Portland Japanese Garden to Partner with Kengo Kuma Again: Acclaimed Architect Will Design Jewel of New Japan Institute Campus

Portland Japanese Garden is delighted to announce that it will once again partner with internationally acclaimed architect Kengo Kuma to refresh part its new Japan Institute campus.
