Cultural Demonstration: Ikebana

Ikebana, the Japanese art of flower arranging, has been translated as “living flowers” or “giving life to flowers.” Join us from 1:15-2:15pm for an Ikebana presentation by Nana Bellerud in honor of Ikebana Day. The demonstration will take place at the Cathy Rudd Cultural Corner, located in the Jordan Schnitzer Japanese Arts Learning Center.

June 6th was designated as Ikebana Day in 2020. Since ancient times in Japan, it has been said that the best day to start practicing traditional arts is on the 6th day of the 6th month at the age of 6, in hopes of the progress of the art. As Portland Japanese Garden is closed on June 6th this year, we are celebrating a few days early.

WHERE IS THIS EVENT HAPPENING?

Jordan Schnitzer Japanese Arts Learning Center

The Jordan Schnitzer Japanese Arts Learning Center was designed to be the cultural, educational, and architectural hub of the new Cultural Village. “With a new classroom, library, and performance space, the Learning Center provides an open and welcoming space where visitors can learn more about the culture that gave us the Japanese garden art form,”
