Translating Tradition: The Ecological Design of the Garden’s New Space (Canceled)

This new event — a combined lecture and guided walk — offers a close-up and personal look at the details and the intentions behind the ecologically-sensitive design of the new spaces of the Garden. This half-day program, hosted by Garden staff, starts with a short talk in the Classroom about the design and construction process of the new spaces, including the green roofs. From there the group goes on a tour of the bonsai collections, the dry creekbed that serves as the key element of a green infrastructure system, and the chabana (flowers for tea) garden, which is not open to the public and features seasonally-organized native and Japanese wildflowers.

  • This is an educational event but does not include hands-on practice for participants.
  • This event is designed for the general public but if you believe it is eligible for reporting as professional development, we are happy to provide a letter certifying your attendance.
  • Fee includes Garden admission.
  • Event fees are non-refundable and take place rain or shine, so please dress appropriately for the weather.
  • Food is not provided. Participants should bring a reusable water bottle.
  • Please allow ample time for parking or consider alternative transport. Plan to arrive by 12:50 p.m. at the Welcome Center for event check-in.

This combined lecture and tour is approved for 2 hours of LA CES continuing education credit by the American Society of Landscape Architects and also by the Association of Professional Landscape Designers. Please remember to sign the sign-in sheet at the event to confirm your attendance if you are claiming credit.
