Cultural Performance: Takohachi X

Come hear the musical duo Takohachi X perform traditional and original compositions on traditional Japanese instruments. They will perform in the Jordan Schnitzer Learning Center at 1:15 pm. Multi-instrumentalists Yumi Torimaru and Kohei Kimura will combine tsugaru shamisen, shinobue (bamboo flute), taiko drums, with katari (storytelling), and dances.

Takohachi X, TakoX for short, is a duo project of Takohachi (www.takohachi.org) who bring Japanese culture to the community. TakoX, meaning Tako Ten, comes from the Roman numeral X. The duo entered the Internet Shinobue Contest in Japan. Takohachi became the first overseas champion of the competition, culminating in a performance in Tokyo.
