Few things are lovelier than the Garden ablaze with fall color. But when do the leaves actually start to change? Factors like temperature, light, and water ensure that the onset and duration of fall colors are difficult to predict perfectly.
There are still many bursts of yellow, orange, and red throughout the Garden, but some trees have moved past the peak of fall color. Late October’s wet weather caused many of the Garden’s maples – including the iconic Japanese Maple near the Upper Pond – to lose their leaves. Over the upcoming weeks and months, the “bones” of the Garden will be further exposed as winter sets in.
